Extra Curricular Hub

One easy location for parents to see what's happening with their student's extra curricular activities.

Following an initial sneak-peak at TASScon last month, we're excited to finally share more information about the new Parent Orbit Extra Curricular hub!

Providing a central location within the app to see all extra curricular updates and information, the new hub will make a huge difference to the Parent Experience, which was voted by schools as a top priority in our recent Extra Curricular Project survey.

Extra Curricular Hub Overview

Sessions & Matches

Whether it's violin lessons or tennis training, parents can quickly see what Extra Curricular activities all students (or individual students) have scheduled, at both a session and 'activity type' level.

Fixtures & Results

Parents can easily see how their student's team is tracking each season, with fixture graphs and recent results, as well as the ability to drill down into a detailed view of how they've performed against specific teams.

Contacts & Information

Important information about activities, including documents and links for things like procedures or photo libraries, can be included on activity pages along with a key contact for the parent to reach out to.

Targeted Notifications

Parents can be notified about cancellations via the existing target notification system from Staff Kiosk to Parent Obit, with the ability for parents to notify the school of Extra Curricular absences coming soon.

Extra Curricular 'Overview' Page

From the homepage, parents can click on the Extra Curricular Hub which lands then on an overview page including:

  • Extra Curricular Activity Type tiles: to drill down into different types of activities.

  • All upcoming sessions and fixtures for all Extra Curricular Activities and students (associated with that parent).

  • Absences and the ability to add an absence with a pre-defined list of upcoming sessions and fixtures for them to select from.

Extra Curricular 'Type' Hub

For activity types that your school chooses to include, parents will see:

  • Extra Curricular Activity tiles e.g. Tennis, Rugby.

  • Upcoming sessions and fixtures for all activities within the type e.g. Sport, and for all students.

  • Recent Results: fixture information and results from the last month.

Extra Curricular 'Activity' Page

By clicking into a specific activity, parents can access:

  • Overview of Activity

  • Activity User Defined fields: URLs and attachments of important information relating to the activity e.g. court hire link, previous semester awards

  • Sessions and Fixtures

  • Results: win graph and full result list

  • Key Contact information

'Session Types' can also be configured, which define the type of sessions that can be scheduled for activities, such as training, practices and team meetings.

Parent Orbit: 1.9.200

The Extra Curricular Hub will be open for any ‘Sport’ Activity Type mapped in Staff Kiosk Sports (Setups).

NEXT

Expected TASS: 58.11.200 /
Expected Parent Orbit: 1.11.200

The EC Hub will be opened to other Activity Types. Administrators will be able to choose the Activity Types that appear.

LATER

Pending update to Staff Portal Custom Rolls.

Coming in a future release, parents will be able to submit absences for upcoming sessions and fixtures.

These are two prerequisites for getting the new Parent Orbit Extra Curricular Hub up and running:

1. Licensed for the Parent Orbit app
2. Using the TASS Extra Curricular module.
 
There are two areas in particular that the hub will rely on:
  • Extra Curricular Scheduler Sessions
  • Extra Curricular Scheduler Fixtures (and Results)

What to Do

In the September release, follow the release instructions to turn on your scopes and check your Extra-Curricular Sport activities flagged for inclusion in the hub. Then, keep an eye out for when the Extra Curricular Hub is available for 'other' Extra Curricular types.
