TASS has been hard at work for the last three months, delivering a range of new and highly requested enhancements.
This is part of some changes we've made to how we do releases, with the goal of getting new features tested and available to schools faster.
In the past, TASS delivered 2 major releases each year - we've now switched to smaller and more regular releases, each of which could contain a mix of major enhancements, minor enhancements, fixes and other updates.
Why have we made those changes? We broke down the entire project in our blog, but ultimately, the decision came down to three key points:
Schools now get access to new features sooner, with releases happening more frequently, instead of potentially waiting up to 6 months for enhancements to be included in the next major release.
Planning, development and testing now happens in shorter development cycles, so we can adapt our focus for any urgent, ad-hoc changes such as new government requirements.
With new features and enhancements spread across more regular releases, it's easier for our team and for schools to get up to speed on the changes in each new version.
With new features now being delivered each month (rather than huge new versions twice a year), it's hard to pick out just a few; but here are some of the most exciting additions to TASS over the last 3 releases.
Along with our regular development, we've also started working on some big new projects. Keep an eye on your inbox for more TASS news - or take a sneak peek at some of our plans for the future down below.
Schools can now capture a student's name in languages other than English, with a new field added to the Student Record. Supporting culturally diverse students and communities, the field is helpful for capturing names in Hebrew or Arabic alphabets, or for names in character-based writing systems like Japanese.
The field can be displayed on Academic Reports and a range of Student and Enrolment listings available throughout TASS.
For those not familiar with TrackOne Studio's Learning Analytics Suite, the software consolidates the data from various School Management and Learning Management Systems, to present real-time analytics for staff, students and parents.
Other than the difficulty of managing the sheer volume of information collected by schools, ease of access and actual ability to interpret data are the major barriers to schools drawing insights from their information. TrackOne makes this complex data easy to understand and use, with user-friendly insights into everything from individual student performance to holistic school-wide activities.
The TrackOne-TASS integration takes this a step further with seamless navigation from the TASS Portals (for staff, students and parents) into the Learning Analytics Suite, making it easier to leverage data insights for more effective decision-making and goal-setting when and where you need it.
Spread across multiple releases, a number of enhancements to the Learning Support module have been introduced to improve visibility for staff and reduce the time spent on the general administration of records.
New bulk maintenance tools allow staff to copy subject-based learning support plans across different years and periods of study, incorporating staff notification emails for new and renewed plans.
More reports, including a new Extra Curricular Activity Payments report and the Attendance Rollcall Status report, have been enhanced to utilise Report Scheduling functionality, supporting staff with timely access to information.
Report Scheduling allows you to generate and send a report straight to your inbox, at a time and frequency of your choosing. Made to minimise the effort of manually running various reports, scheduling provides timely digests of information and is also helpful for reducing day-to-day notification overload.
Our API Program continues to expand, with a tonne of new endpoints and other enhancements added to our extensive library of RESTful APIs. These include:
Efficiently and securely extract payroll data from TASS for external analysis, using a range of endpoints including employee details and transaction history.
Support for general notes and medication requirements has been added to the Medical Conditions endpoint, as part of the Student Details API.
Several enhancements to the Online Enrolments API have added support for both standard and confidential notes, and allowed for the sending and receiving of student medical data.
Third-party products can now connect to TASS APIs as a unique entity, with OAuth2 Authentification options added to the API maintenance window in TASS.
Enhancements to the LISS API add support for Staff Duties and Meetings, expanding the scope of timetable information that can be transferred to TASS through the API.
Reduce the risk of miscommunication regardless of a student's family situation, with the new ability to set and prioritise which contacts should be reached in what order.
The new Call Order feature allows schools to set a hierarchy for each student's Communication Rule contacts, so that staff know who to call at a glance.
Provide your parent community with more transparency around the things happening in their child's school life.
Schools can choose which Pastoral Care events are visible in the Parent Portal, where parents can now view and acknowledge records, so that schools can be confident that parents are aware of their child's activities at school.
Earlier this month, we announced TASS Orbit - a new range of mobile apps that will connect directly to the TASS system.
Built by a newly-formed team dedicated to TASS Orbit, app development will occur alongside the existing TASS roadmap - which means that new features and functionality will continue to be added to each in unison.
TASS Orbit will leverage the functionality in the existing TASS portal products, starting with a Parent App. Development will be led by feedback from schools that join our dedicated Special Interest Group, where they'll participate in design workshops, work alongside us to prioritise and develop features, pilot the app and more.
The Special Interest Group will be finalised in the coming month, with the first app slated for release next year.
