STP Phase 2 is an expansion of Single Touch Payroll by the ATO. These changes are aimed at reducing the reporting burden for employers who need to report information about their employees to multiple government agencies, and to support the administration of our social security system.
As a result of significant delays experienced by the ATO with the testing and whitelisting process, TASS was provided a deferral of the STP2 adoption date until 31st March 2022, which automatically applied to all schools currently using TASS Payroll.
In preparation for this, STP2 enhancements were introduced behind the scenes in Version 55 but disabled until a thorough testing and early adopters program could be completed.
This process has now concluded and STP2 functionality is ready to be released in the next patch release v55.4.130 scheduled for Tuesday 15th March.
All TASS Payroll customers must be on the latest version and complete their first pay run in April with STP2 enabled. If you are unable to commence STP2 reporting by this date, you will need to apply to the ATO for a separate employer-initiated deferral.
In summary, these changes include: • A breakdown of gross amounts for: Allowances, Bonuses and commissions, Directors’ fees, Overtime, Paid leave, Salary sacrifice
• Submission of employee conditions (identifiers) for TFN details.
• Submission of child support and deductions.
• Addition of income types and restructuring the employee file to future proof it e.g., season workers.
• Support for country codes if a payment is made to an Australian resident working overseas OR to a Working Holiday Maker.
• Catering for lump sum payments E (now included in STP reporting) and W (reported separately).
If you’re running TASS Version 55.4.x (General Release Version), your school can start to prepare for STP2 by completing steps 1 – 11 in the checklist below.
On the 15th of March, TASS will release a patch (55.4.130) that will allow you to enable STP2 and complete the remaining steps in the checklist.
